The LineScout is one of the first robots designed at the robotics department. Its main goal is to inspect high voltage power lines. It can do visual inspection using its four high definition cameras as well as do resistance measurements on sleeves and corrosion assessments of the steel spine of the cables. It main advantage is that it can easily manage most obstacles found on power lines such as spacers and vibration dampeners.
Originally, the video feeds were analog and recorded on MiniDV magnetic tapes. During the robot's last update, the analog cameras were changed to digital cameras. My job was to update the robot control software to display and record the new digital video feeds coming from the cameras.
